Thank you for using my webquest! This webquest is intended for grade 5 and up. In this competitive job market, I believe it's never late to teach your students how to write a resume, make a business card, or make a portfolio. Actually, I had my 5th graders write a resume last year, and I was blown away how much accomplishments my students already achieved. (The examples is below.) I hope your students can take a valuable life skill from this webquest as well! - Mrs. Kormos
NOTE: When your students submit the research report using my link, the results will be forward to my account. You definitely want to set up your own survey using Google Drive or Survey Monkey.
Standards
VA5C.1 Applies information and processes from other disciplines to enhance the understanding and production of artworks.
b. Researches, describes, and discusses various art-related careers (e.g., art historian, art critic, curator, web designer, game designer, fine artist).
Essential Questions
- How does the art career you chose affect our everyday lives?
- How can I demonstrate my skills and accomplishments from both my life and art room?
- How does the portfolio skill apply to my future?
Implementation Timeline (Two 40 min. classes for the research, résumé, and business card; the whole year on-going process with the final portfolio)
Day 1. Introduction of the Art Career Web Quest
- Demonstrate how to get to the art career webquest on the Active board.
- Demonstrate how to enlarge the text. (ctrl + to enlarge, ctrl – to reduce) This will ensure students with sight problem can read better.
- Demonstrate how to fill out the research form.
- Go over the media center behavior.
- Take students to the media center to conduct the webquest.
Day 2. Introduction of Résumé and Business Card
- Before students come in, lay out the resume/portfolio examples on the table.
- Have students look through the portfolios. Ask the EQ. “How can I demonstrate my skills and accomplishments from the art class and my life?”
- Go over the résumé ppt. Have students jot down their accomplishments on a piece of paper.
- Go over how to set up the résumé on a Word document.
- Take students to the media center.
- Students will work on the résumé.
- Students may work on their business card or portfolio ppt. when finished.
Throughout the year, students will take a picture of their artwork as they complete. Students will upload four of the best artworks to the computer and create a power point portfolio using their résumé and the 4 images.
I am planning to invite a couple of professional artists to the school to review the student résumé, business card, and portfolio as if it is a real job interview.
